Harbor

Releases

What shipped, and when.

Every Harbor release on every platform, newest first. Harbor's apps update on their own schedules — the Mac App Store waits on review, the Web Clipper waits on four of them — so the version numbers here rarely line up, and that's on purpose.

  1. Nested lists, finally. New indent and outdent buttons in the formatting bar let you build sublists straight from the keyboard — in bullet lists, numbered lists and checklists.

Fold your outlines: any list item with sub-items gets a chevron to collapse and expand it, so long outlines stay readable.

Also fixed: the hide-keyboard button actually hides the keyboard now, and dragging a list item to reorder it no longer selects text along the way.

  2. New

    • Share a note as a public link — make it public, copy the link, and revoke it whenever you like.
    • A full-screen PDF viewer for PDFs attached to a note.
    • Markdown export — export your whole account as Markdown, or download any single note as a Markdown file.
    • Clear account — empty an account without deleting it. Same email, same plan, still signed in.
    • Find notebooks — filter the Notebooks screen as you type.
    • A “What’s New” card after Harbor updates, so you can see what changed.

    Fixed

    • Images no longer vanish from a note the first time you edit it.
    • The drag handle for moving blocks is easier to grab near the left edge of the screen.
    • The share confirmation now tells you when the note became public.
  3. New

    • Standard Notes import — bring your notes, tags and attachments over from Standard Notes, with the option to encrypt everything as it comes in.
    • Markdown export — export your whole account as Markdown, or download any single note as a Markdown file.
    • Clear account — empty an account without deleting it. Same email, same plan, still signed in.
    • Files, rebuilt — an upload button, true totals, grid and list views, filters, and a details panel with a preview, file info, and which notes each file appears in.
    • A “What’s New” card after Harbor updates, so you can see what changed.
    • Copy a note’s ID straight from the Info panel.

    Improved

    • Importing from Evernote is faster and more reliable, and handles much larger files.
    • Text sizes and spacing now match the rest of Harbor.

    Fixed

    • Images no longer vanish from a note the first time you edit it.
    • Notes with a lot of tags no longer push the sidebar and note list off screen.
    • Arrow keys move the highlight in the note-link picker.
    • Notebook stacks keep their collapsed state through a rename.
    • The share confirmation now tells you when the note became public.
  4. New

    • Workspaces — split Harbor into Work, Personal, or whatever suits you, and switch between them. Each workspace shows only its own notebooks, notes, tasks, tags and trash. Nothing changes until you create your first one.
    • Live sync — a note you edit on another device now updates while you’re looking at it, instead of only after you leave Harbor and come back.
    • Collapsible outlines — fold a heading to tuck away everything under it, and unfold it when you want it back.
    • A new sign-in — the sign-in, register and password-reset screens have been redrawn from scratch, with a dark mode that was designed rather than inverted.
    • A save indicator that says exactly where a note stands — saving, saved, offline, or something went wrong.

    Fixed

    • Harbor no longer signs you out when macOS declines a Keychain read.
    • Signing out now clears your stay-unlocked passphrase on the spot.
    • Moving a folded heading no longer hides the content it lands on.
    • Note-list preview images are rounded to match the web app.
  5. Harbor CLI

    0.1.36

Markdown export: harbor account export --format markdown for the whole account or one notebook, and harbor notes export <id> to write a single note to a file — a .zip when the note has attachments.
  6. Introducing Workspaces

    • Workspaces — choose which notebooks belong to a space, then switch between them from the sidebar
    • Shared links keep their folds — every download now comes out fully expanded
    • First-sync progress moved into the sidebar
  7. Move in from Standard Notes

    • Import from Standard Notes — Your notes, tags and attachments come across. Turn encryption on and the whole import happens on your PC.
    • Clear account — Empty your account without deleting it. Same email, same plan, still signed in.
    • Sign in with a passkey — Windows Hello or a security key, instead of your password.
    • Collapsible outlines — Fold any list item or heading in the editor.
    • Signing out asks first — Keep this device's copy of your notes, or remove it.
  8. Voice recordings now save as MP3 — the same format every other Harbor app uses, so a memo you record on your phone plays anywhere.

After an update, Harbor sometimes has to refresh your whole account. It now tells you that is what it is doing and how far along it is, and the app stays usable while it runs instead of sitting on a spinner.

  9. Fold your outlines

    • Collapsible outlines — click the chevron to fold any bullet or heading
    • First-sync progress — a banner now shows how far along a big first sync is
  10. Know what Harbor is doing

    • A big first sync is visible — A banner across the top with progress, so a half-empty window explains itself.
    • Change your email or password — Both from Settings, confirmed by email.
    • The editor says when it saved — And when it hasn't.
    • PDFs open full screen — Page navigation, zoom and search.
    • Empty the Trash from the sidebar — Just right-click it.
  11. What's new in Harbor 0.2.5

    • Recent Notes — the sidebar section now shows your most recently edited notes, from every device, right after a fresh install
    • Notes with a lot of tags no longer push the sidebar and note list off screen.
    • Importing from Evernote is faster and more reliable, and handles much larger files.
    • iPhone & iPad: share a note as a public link, copy it, and revoke it whenever you like.
    • A short “What’s New” card after Harbor updates, so you can see what changed.
    • iPhone: fixed the drag handle for moving blocks being hard to grab near the left edge.
  12. What's new in Harbor 0.2.4

    • Evernote import — large .enex files now import on Harbor's servers, with real progress and a Cancel that works
    • Update notice — Harbor tells you at the top of the window when a new version is ready to install
    • Open in New Window — opens just the note, the way the Mac does
    • Voice recordings — now MP3, so they play everywhere including shared pages
  13. Your notes keep up with you

    • Live sync — A note written on another device shows up here in about a second.
    • Export from the sidebar — Start an export, close Harbor, and we will email you a link when it is ready.
    • A fresh look for signing in — The sign-in, password-reset and verify screens now match the rest of Harbor.
  14. Live sync. A note you write on another device now shows up on your phone while you’re looking at it, instead of only after you leave Harbor and come back.

Change your email address or password without leaving the app — both now live in Settings ▸ Account, verification included.

Also: the export screen says plainly that you can close Harbor while a long export runs. It finishes on the server and the link arrives by email.

  15. Repeating tasks, templates that file themselves, and merge

    • Custom repeat schedules — set any schedule Harbor can describe, with a sentence saying what it does and when it is next due
    • Template filing — give a template a default notebook and tags, and see every variable you can use
    • Table of contents and merge — turn a selection into one note of links, or combine them into a single note
    • Private-link warning — publishing a note that links to private notes now warns you first
    • Files — too-large and disallowed files are refused when you pick them, not after uploading
  16. A new welcome. The screens you see before signing in have been redrawn from scratch — four original harbour illustrations, one for each thing Harbor is for, and a dark mode that was designed rather than inverted.

Also fixed: the status bar icons could come out the wrong colour when Harbor’s theme didn’t match your phone’s.

  17. Repeating tasks, properly. Set a repeat on any task — daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or a custom rule like “the last Friday of every 3rd month”. Every task now says in plain English when it repeats and when it’s next due.

Templates gained a default notebook and tags, so a new note lands in the right place already labelled. {{date}} now follows the date format you chose in Settings, plus ten more variables.

Also fixed: several ways a repeating task could lose its schedule.

    • Press L to lock your encrypted notes right away — or pick “Lock encryption” from the ⌘K menu when you’re in the middle of typing. Anything unsaved is saved and encrypted first, and Settings now shows the shortcut on its “Lock now” button.
    • Groundwork for downloading a single note as a self-contained web page — pictures, attachments and styling all in one file that opens with no internet connection. The button for it arrives in an upcoming release.
    • A watched folder that has recovered no longer keeps showing the error it ran into last time.
    • When a note arrives by email and cannot be filed the way you asked, the notice we send you now lists every reason instead of dropping some of them.
    • Turning on two-factor authentication now says so when a code was not actually sent, instead of reporting success — and a code that failed to send no longer counts against your hourly limit.
  18. New in this update:

    • Standard Notes import — bring your notes, tags and attachments over from Standard Notes, with the option to encrypt everything as it comes in. • Markdown export — export your whole account as Markdown, or download any single note as a Markdown file. • Clear account — empty an account without deleting it, on Mac and on iPhone & iPad. • Files, rebuilt — an upload button, true totals, grid and list views, filters, and a details panel with a preview, file info, and which notes each file appears in. • Copy a note’s ID straight from the Info panel. • Find notebooks — search your notebooks on iPhone and iPad.

Also in this update: • Fixed images vanishing from a note the first time you edited it. • Text sizes and spacing on the Mac now match the rest of Harbor. • Arrow keys move the highlight in the note-link picker. • Notebook stacks keep their collapsed state through a rename. • The share confirmation now tells you when the note became public.
