Common questions about switching

What is an ENEX file?
It’s Evernote’s export format — a single XML file holding your notes, their dates, tags and every attachment embedded inside it. That’s why exports get so large: attachments are written into the file itself. It’s also why a notebook’s name lives only in the filename, so keep the filenames as Evernote wrote them. Can I test the import on the free plan?
Yes — start free, import a notebook or two, and poke around before you pay a cent. Your ENEX files are untouched, so you can bring the whole library over whenever you’re ready.
Will my formatting survive?
Yes — rich text, checklists, tables, and attachments come across as they were. If anything ever looks off, every import is non-destructive: your ENEX files are untouched and you can re-import.
Do my tags and notebooks come over?
All of them. Two things can’t travel, because Evernote’s ENEX format has no field for them: notebook stacks and tag hierarchies. Notebooks arrive ungrouped and nested tags arrive flat, so you drag them back into shape once — a couple of minutes for most libraries. Exactly what carries over →
Can I go back, or export again later?
Anytime. Harbor exports to HTML, Markdown or Evernote ENEX — and there’s a full API. Never held hostage is a written commitment, not a slogan.
Will my notes work in Obsidian?

Is there a size limit on imports?
Harbor is built for big libraries — years of notes, thousands of attachments. Large imports just take a little longer, and the progress bar keeps you posted.
What about my Evernote AI features?
Harbor doesn’t build in an AI — instead you connect the ChatGPT or Claude you already have through a real API, CLI, and MCP. Your AI, working on your notes.
