Terms of Service
These are the terms for using Harbor, a personal notes service operated by Cloudmanic Labs, LLC (“Harbor,” “we,” “us”), an Oregon, USA limited liability company. By creating an account or using Harbor, you agree to them. We’ve written them to be read — short sections, plain English — because trust is the whole product. Questions? Email help@harbor.my.
The short version
The parts people actually care about.
- Your content is yours. We take only the narrow license needed to run the service for you.
- Cancel anytime. If your subscription ends, your account goes read-only — you can still export everything and delete your account. Never data hostage.
- A written price-lock promise: your price won’t increase for your first 3 years as a subscriber, and after that any increase is capped at 10% per year.
- Optional encryption is truly zero-knowledge: if you lose your passphrase, we cannot recover that content. Nobody can.
- Be a reasonable human: don’t use Harbor to break the law or abuse the service.
The service
Harbor is a personal second brain — one person, one account.
Harbor is a personal notes service: notes, notebooks, tags, tasks, reminders, attachments, search with OCR, sync across the web app, native apps, web clipper, and CLI. It is built for individuals — one person per account. There are no team or multi-user features, and accounts may not be shared.
We’ll keep improving Harbor over time, which means features may be added or changed. We won’t remove your ability to export your data — that one is permanent.
Your account and security
Keep your credentials safe; tell us if something looks wrong.
- You must provide accurate account information and keep it up to date.
- You’re responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your password, passkeys, and access tokens confidential. We support two-factor authentication and passkeys — please use them.
- You can review and revoke your active sessions and devices in settings.
- If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, tell us right away at help@harbor.my.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Harbor.
Your content stays yours
You own your notes. We get only the permission needed to run the service.
Everything you store in Harbor — notes, attachments, recordings, clips — is yours. You retain all ownership of it.
You grant us only the limited license we need to operate the service for you: to store, back up, transmit, sync, and display your content on your devices, and to process it (for example, OCR on attachments and transcription of audio) solely to provide Harbor’s features to you. This license exists only to run the service; it ends when you delete your content or your account, except for brief persistence in encrypted backups.
We do not sell your content, share it with advertisers, or use it to train AI models. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Harbor to harm people or the service.
Harbor is for storing and organizing your own stuff. You agree not to:
- Use Harbor for anything illegal, or store content you have no right to have.
- Use public share links or your
@m.harbor.myemail-to-note address to distribute spam, malware, phishing, or scams. - Publish content through share links that is unlawful, or that infringes someone else’s rights.
- Attempt to break, probe, or overload the service, or access other people’s accounts or data.
- Resell the service or share one account among multiple people.
We may remove public content or suspend accounts that violate this section — see “Termination” below for how we handle that.
Plans, subscriptions, and billing
One free plan, one paid plan. Auto-renews. Cancel anytime.
- Harbor has a free plan (with usage limits) and one paid plan: Harbor Unlimited, at $9.99/month or $99/year.
- You can pay through Stripe, the Apple App Store, or Google Play, depending on your platform. Applicable taxes may be added based on your location.
- Subscriptions renew automatically — monthly or annually, whichever you chose — until you cancel.
- You can cancel anytime, in the app or through the store you subscribed with. Cancelling stops future billing; your paid features continue until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds are handled by our Refund Policy, which includes a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase.
The price-lock promise
Your price won’t creep. This is a commitment, in writing, in the terms.
We built Harbor partly out of frustration with services that doubled their prices on data people couldn’t easily leave with. So this is a written commitment, not marketing copy:
- For your first 3 years as a subscriber, your subscription price will not increase. The price you signed up at is the price you pay.
- After those 3 years, any price increase to your subscription is capped at 10% per year.
- This promise applies for as long as your subscription remains active. If we ever raise prices for new customers, your price is unaffected during your lock, and rises no faster than the cap after it.
- If we ever need to change how this works, the change will not apply retroactively to existing subscribers’ locks.
If your subscription ends
Read-only, never hostage.
If your paid subscription lapses — you cancel, a payment fails, whatever the reason — your account becomes read-only. Your data stays exactly where it is. You can still:
- Read everything you’ve stored.
- Export everything — ENEX, HTML, ZIP, or a full account export.
- Delete your account and all of its data.
We will never hold your data hostage to a payment. Resubscribe whenever you like and your account picks up where it left off.
Optional encryption — read this part
Zero-knowledge means zero-knowledge. Lost passphrase = lost content.
Harbor offers optional client-side encryption for notes and notebooks you choose (Argon2id-derived keys, AES-256-GCM). It is zero-knowledge: encryption happens on your device, and we never hold your keys or passphrase. You accept the consequences of that design:
- If you lose your encryption passphrase, your encrypted content is permanently unrecoverable. We cannot reset it, recover it, or restore the content. No exceptions, because no ability.
- Encrypted content cannot be read, OCR’d, indexed, searched, or accessed via the API/CLI/MCP — by us or by anything else.
If you use this feature, keeping your passphrase safe is entirely your responsibility.
API, CLI, and your own AI
Open by design. Your tokens, your tools, your responsibility.
Harbor provides a documented API, a CLI, and an MCP server so you can script your account and connect your own AI tools. When you create access tokens or authorize third-party apps:
- Anything done with your tokens counts as done by you — keep them secret, and revoke any token you no longer use.
- Your AI or third-party tools access your data on your instructions, under your agreement with those providers — we’re not a party to that relationship.
- Don’t use programmatic access to abuse the service; reasonable rate limits apply.
Public share links
You publish it, you own the consequences. Unpublish anytime.
You can publish a note as a read-only public page. Publishing is entirely your choice and your responsibility: anyone with the link can view the page, and you must have the rights to whatever you publish. You can unpublish at any time. We may disable public pages that violate the acceptable-use section or the law.
Termination
You can leave anytime. If we ever have to act, we won’t strand your data.
By you: delete your account whenever you like, from settings. Deletion is covered in the Privacy Policy — a 30-day grace window, then permanent erasure.
By us: we may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, create legal risk, or abuse the service. Unless we’re legally prevented from doing so (or your account was used for something egregious like distributing malware), we’ll give you notice and a reasonable opportunity to export your data first. The never-hostage principle applies even here.
Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Harbor reliable, but we can’t promise perfection.
Harbor is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet every requirement you have. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. You should maintain your own exports of data you cannot afford to lose — we make that easy on purpose.
Limitation of liability
Standard small-company terms: our liability is capped.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cloudmanic Labs, LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, or data, arising from your use of Harbor. Our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose (or $50 if you haven’t paid us anything). Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Indemnification
If your use of Harbor gets us sued, that’s on you.
You agree to indemnify and hold Cloudmanic Labs, LLC harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your content, your use of the service in violation of these terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
Governing law
Oregon, USA.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that can’t be resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Oregon, and both sides consent to that venue. (We’d rather you just email us first — most things are fixable in one message.)
Changes to these terms
We’ll tell you before anything material changes.
We may update these terms as Harbor evolves. The date at the top shows the latest revision. For material changes, we’ll notify you by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect; continuing to use Harbor after that means you accept the updated terms. The price-lock promise above will not be weakened retroactively for existing subscribers.
