Will my notebooks and tags survive the import?

Your notebooks and tags both survive. Two pieces of your structure can’t, and it’s worth knowing which before you start.

Notebooks come across, one per .enex file, named after the file. So export notebook by notebook and your library rebuilds itself on the way in. Export everything in one go and it all lands in a single notebook — that’s not Harbor flattening it, it’s that an ENEX file carries no notebook information inside it at all.

Tags come across and stay attached to their notes.

Stacks and nested tags don’t travel. There’s no field for either in Evernote’s export format, so no importer can recover them — your notebooks arrive ungrouped and nested tags arrive flat. Harbor organizes exactly the way Evernote does (notes in notebooks, notebooks in stacks, tags nesting up to three levels), so putting it back is drag-and-drop and usually takes a couple of minutes. If your Evernote tag tree was a little chaotic, this is a nice moment to tidy it.

After the import, everything behaves like it was born in Harbor: notebooks show note counts, tags filter from the sidebar, and search understands your structure — notebook:Receipts tag:2024 works the way you’d expect. See What search operators does Harbor support?
