What happens if I stop paying?

Your account goes read-only. That’s it — no deletion, no ransom note.

Read-only means you can still open the apps and read every note you’ve ever made. And — this is the part that matters — export and delete keep working. A lapsed account can export everything as HTML or Evernote ENEX, exactly like a paying one, and can delete anything, up to and including the whole account. Your data is never leverage.

If you come back, resubscribe and everything is where you left it — write access returns and you carry on.

This behavior is deliberate, and it’s personal for us. Evernote taught a generation what it feels like to have years of notes on the other side of a price hike: pay up, or lose your workflow while you scramble to get your own data out. One piece of plain advice that has nothing to do with lapsing: export a copy of your library once in a while anyway. It’s your data; keeping a backup you hold yourself is just good hygiene, and Harbor makes it a one-step job.
